The main criteria in our exstensive search have been:
1) The quality of the materials used.
2) Actual production quality, including sewing, seams, fillings, eyes and colours.
3) The overall size of the finished article, looking specifically at the price to size ratio,
and finally,
4) The retail price.
We chose the winner from a very high calibre cast of soft toy suppliers, all of which you will almost certainly know, they included:
Teddy Hermann, the world renowned German soft toy design and manufacturer, established since 1912!
Jellycat, the quirky soft toy designers from London, established in 1999.
Moulin Roty, the exquisite French soft toy designers, established in 1972.
Aurora World, Palm Pals, the Italian soft toy giant, established in 1981.
Noodoll Plush Toys, the London based, Tiawan made designs, established in 2011.
Lilla Och Stora Bjorn, the luxury Swedish soft toy company, established in 2019.
Best Years, the quality Knitted Soft Toy company, established in 2012.
and lastly the London based Avery Row, established in 2015.
It was a really tough decision and it finally came down to a split decision between Aurora and Teddy Hermann.
The reasons are quite simple.
Aurora came up with an exemplary plush toy collection that captured the imagination, namely the 'Pal Palms' phenomenon.
This range, which now number over sixty designs, satisfy just about every criteria.
They are well made, using nice quality plush and their price point is simply unbeatable, ranging from £5.45 to £7.45!!
They are really collectable and make sensational small gifts that don't burn a hole in your pocket.
Called 'Palm Pals' because they literally fit perfectly in the palm of your hand.
Teddy Hermann made the split because they have a large range, offering incredibly life-like soft toy animals, as well as a really good range of plush designs.
They use only the best materials and the manufacture is outstanding.
Their price point is generally incredibly good, for example they make a stunning 'Lying Rhinoceros' that is 45cm long for just £20.95, you cannot find that quality, size and price anywhere else.
They have also perfected the 'cute expression', they understand the need for correct proportions and eye settings that lots of other designers don't.
We found, in these tougher financial times, that price and quality have to be at the forefront, otherwise everything just becomes corporate and a lusting for profit.
So for all of these reasons we split the number one soft toy company for 2023 between Aurora and Teddy Hermann.
