Fleurtations - Observations, Google and Has Amazon Run It's Course?

It’s been a while since the last blog and lots has changed. We are still heavily into website design, SEO and Google algorithm changes - you have to do something with your life while you’re hanging around in the great “waiting room”- but we have also decided to add a little more of our own observations about life, music, film and sport but without any mention whatsoever of politics, rap music or celeb gossip, all of which, are a complete waste of precious time.

The latest Google algorithm changes have caused real havoc, but you don’t need me to tell you that. I have great respect for the Google ethic, said without any cynicism because I honestly feel that they are trying to produce a fair playing field for all, however, human nature being what it is, I can’t see them ever truly succeeding. In the light of the latest algorithm changes we have found that some of our old pages have been launched around Venus and have had to almost start again, not a bad thing, in retrospect they were rubbish!

Our new look site http://www.fleurtations.uk.com/ is now looking really good, even if I do say so myself. We have added a “more details” facility which has produced almost instant rewards as far as bounce rate goes, people are actually staying longer and viewing far more pages, our Alexa ranking has improved by ONE MILLION places, so we are pretty pleased with ourselves. We have added new pages and discarded old ones, a list of the new ones can be found at the end of this blog. The “What’s New” page http://www.fleurtations.uk.com/Fleurtations_Whats_New.asp has become very funky with more colour and better design and we are looking to put a full search facility on the whole site, as opposed to only covering the Jellycat pages http://www.fleurtations.uk.com/jellycat_1.asp at the moment, plus there will be a helpful assistant, no not one of those annoying little twonks, this one will ask first before coming out to play. We are struggling as to whether we make it a male or female image, what do you think? Anyway, things are definitely accelerating at an alarming pace and I am really optimistic about the future of the web as a global market place.

The really interesting piece of news regarding the global market place is that some disgruntled companies have finally given Amazon and Ebay the push, is this a sign of things to come? Jellycat, one of the world leaders in soft toy design have finally run out of patience with traders who use Amazon and Ebay to promote, store, package and deliver their goods for a percentage of the transaction fee. The result has been a price war between third party traders and actual recommended retailers, which has seen the Jellycat brand marginalised to only best selling lines, at the expensive of the whole catalogue, which is really detrimental to both Jellycat, collectors and the general buying public. From 31st December, anyone selling new items on “third party” sites will be instantly removed from Jellycat’s suppliers list. This is a very brave move and one that we whole heartedly approve of.

On a totally different track altogether I went to see “Taken 2”at the weekend and have to say that it was pretty poor, loved the first one but this just milked it. On a better note watched the ”Negotiator” the other night and that is a cracking film with Samuel L Jackson and Kevin Spacey, well worth a look if you haven’t seen it.

On the music front have just downloaded (legally) a copy of June Tabors “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda” absolutely brilliant, totally unaccompanied, just a pure voice full of pathos - really sad . On a lighter note I stumbled across a cracking song by Edgar Winter (of Frankenstein fame) and Slash called “Rebel Road”, if you like rocky homages this is the song for you. Lastly, found an excellent Stars song called “Personal” from the album “In Our Bedroom After the War” about the trials and tribulations of people trying to meet through the web. Also check out the new Bob Dylan video on Youtube for the song “Duquesne Whistle” from the Tempest album, even if you don’t like Bob Dylan this is a sublime video.

As promised here is the list of brand new pages from the Jellycat range:
